Kate’s freshly-caught family fun in Arniston
We were thrilled to find Arniston unchanged since our last visit. A “True-South” destination, Arniston is a little, historic fishing village offering unspoilt seaside action and relaxation. After a pleasant drive through the Overberg, we reached Arniston and made our way to Pirate’s Landing, accommodation we found online. Pictures of Pirate’s Landing showed views we found irresistible. Pirate’s Landing is one of 41 self-catering spots under the Arniston-Etna banner, so you’re sure to find the spot to suit your tastes and budget. Our spot has stunning views over the harbour, and the lounge (with fireplace) leads onto a stoep, where you could easily spend the rest of your weekend! With four bedrooms downstairs and a large TV room upstairs (with dormitory style beds) our two families were easily and luxuriously accommodated.
We spent quite some time connecting the DSTV for the children… (Somebody was inserting the card upside down!) A relaxing drink around the fireplace and that glorious getaway feeling soon took hold. Perfect weather on the Saturday enticed us out to stroll on the beach. There were good waves for the only two surfers in the sea (We won’t say who!) - and they still managed to have a collision! Rugby on TV at the hotel for the guys and beauty sleep for moms and kids helped the afternoon to slip blissfully by. On Sunday we walked down to the famous caves. The kids did some energetic rock climbing and we had the most awesome tea and scones at the Arniston Hotel. Much time was spent dreaming up ways to have our own spot in Arniston – a getaway here just isn’t long enough! Cape Chat’s espresso-sized summary of Arniston: Authentic coastal village ambience. Abundant seaside life - and -style. Birds, whales, seafood, beaches, caves, cycling, swimming, surfing… and more! An awesome choice of accommodation. To book Pirate’s Landing contact Etna’s Self Catering Accommodation on 028 445 9657 or visit www.arniston-etnas.co.za. P.s Don’t miss the Caltex Voet of Africa race on Sat 13 October. There is a 10km, 21km and 42km starting from Napier and ending in Bredasdorp. Arniston makes the perfect weekend getaway break to take part in this event.
